Every day, residents in the vicinity of Windsor Hill Blvd risk their safety crossing Terry Fox Drive. It is a wide, busy street that has become a preferred route for drivers avoiding the more congested Mavis Rd nearby. At the intersection of Terry Fox and Windsor Hill, a park lies on one side and a nine-storey rental apartment building on the other — home to families, seniors, and people with disabilities. For anyone, but especially those with mobility challenges or young children, crossing here can feel like taking their life in their hands.
A signalized crosswalk — one that uses regular red-yellow-green traffic lights activated by a pedestrian push-button — is urgently needed at this location. The nearest set of traffic lights requires an 11-minute walk, forcing pedestrians to choose between a long detour or a dangerous crossing on a street where cars travel fast and often disregard yielding laws.
We, the undersigned, call on the City of Mississauga to install a signalized pedestrian crossing at Terry Fox Drive and Windsor Hill Boulevard to make this neighbourhood safer and more accessible for everyone. Specifically, we request that the City:
- Prioritize the installation of a full signalized crosswalk that halts traffic with a red light when activated.
- Ensure the design supports accessibility for people with disabilities, seniors, and families with strollers.
By signing this petition, you are helping protect residents who simply want to cross the street safely — and urging the City to act before a tragedy occurs.
